Playground Replacement Project

Following significant damage sustained during the 2022/23 River Murray flood event, the playgrounds at Bert Dix Park and SS Ellen Park were identified as non-compliant and in need of full replacement. Structural assessments confirmed that the equipment at both sites could not be retained due to safety concerns.

Project Background

Renmark Paringa Council manages 10 playgrounds across the townships of Renmark, Paringa and Lyrup. As part of the flood recovery process, Council undertook a project to replace the damaged playgrounds at Bert Dix Park and SS Ellen Park. Funding for the works was aligned with flood recovery budgets, requiring designs that were both compliant and cost-effective.

Community Engagement

Community consultation was carried out in December 2023, with residents invited to provide input on two proposed design options for each site. One option closely reflected the existing playground layout, while the other offered an alternate design. Feedback was collected via an online survey and in-person displays at the Renmark Public Library between 19–22 December 2023.

Construction and Completion

Following Council’s endorsement of the selected designs in January 2024, equipment was ordered, and installation took place between April and May 2024. Both playgrounds were completed and opened for public use in June 2024, within the 2023/24 financial year.

Project Outcome

The replacement playgrounds provide safe, accessible, and engaging play spaces for the community. The final designs reflect community preferences gathered during consultation and ensure compliance with current safety standards.

Council thanks all who contributed feedback during the engagement process.
