Hairdressers & Tattooist Practices

All beauty businesses (hairdressers, personal care and body artists) are required to ensure the safety and hygiene of their equipment, premises and practices.

Any business providing hair, beauty or related services must comply with the Health Standards of Practice for Hairdressing and if premises are providing waxing, manicures, pedicures, body piercing, tattoos or permanent makeup practices must also comply with the Safe and Hygienic Practice of Skin Penetration.

These guidelines inform the industry and the community of the requirements that must be met by businesses to ensure hygienic practices, and to prevent the spread of infection and disease.

Environmental Health Officers may inspect these premises to ensure their practices safe.

If you are intending on opening a hairdresser or beauty salon, we recommend you return the self-audit form to Council, so that Council’s Environmental Health Officer can provide advice.
