Work begins on James Avenue footpath to boost riverfront connectivity
Work has officially begun on the James Avenue Footpath project, marking a significant step forward in improving safety and connectivity along the Renmark riverfront.
The upgrade will create a continuous link between the existing James Avenue and Ninth Street walking paths, strengthening the broader riverfront trail network.
Once complete, the new footpath and pedestrian crossing will support a more walkable and accessible space for everyone, from locals enjoying a daily stroll to runners, Renmark parkrun participants, the Happy Wanderers, and visitors exploring the area.
The project also includes a pedestrian crossing over the nearby service road, improving safety around the RIT pump station area and making it easier for pedestrians to navigate the precinct.
Identified through community feedback during last year’s Annual Business Plan consultation process, the project reflects Council’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that supports active, healthy lifestyles.
Council has also liaised with and notified affected stakeholders about the project and its impacts, thanking the community for its ongoing support during construction.
During the works, a pedestrian detour will be in place, and reduced speed limits will apply to traffic in the area to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-May, with Council set to provide further updates as the project progresses.
