Council Meeting Wrap Up – 25 August 2026

Renmark Paringa Council held its monthly ordinary meeting last night.

Here’s a look at some of the key decisions from the meeting.

Planning for Council’s assets and stormwater

Council endorsed the Strategic Asset Management Improvement Plan for 2026/27 via the minutes from the Asset Committee meeting held earlier this month, supporting the continued improvement of how Council plans, manages and maintains its infrastructure.

The Draft Stormwater Management Plan for Renmark and Calperum was also endorsed, providing a framework for managing stormwater and improving understanding of drainage requirements across the area.

Working together across the Riverland

Council received an update on the Riverland Local Government Forum and G3 Alliance meeting held on 5 August.

The G3 Alliance continues to work collaboratively on initiatives including opportunities to develop a Riverland Council Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.

Environmental watering

Council received an update from the Renmark Environmental Watering Committee, including information on environmental watering and monitoring across local wetland and floodplain sites.

Recent monitoring recorded a range of wetland, woodland and frog species, with several species recorded at sites for the first time.

2025/26 Quarter 4 Progress Report

This month’s agenda also included the final Quarter 4 Progress Report for the 2025/26 Annual Business Plan, providing a snapshot of the projects, services and initiatives delivered across our council area over the past year.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Greener open spaces
Council completed its annual tree planting program in line with the Greening Renmark Paringa Plan, continuing to invest in the district’s parks and open spaces.
  • Upgraded Renmark Netball Courts
The grant-funded upgrade of the Renmark Netball Courts, including new lighting and court surfacing, was completed.

Council was pleased support the upgrade by providing project management.

  • Community input equals better walking connections
A new footpath connection along James Avenue to Ninth Street was completed, supporting safer and more accessible walking connections in the community.

This was a project included in Council 2025/26 Annual Business Plan and Budget after community members provided submissions to highlight the importance of the upgrade.

  • Roads and infrastructure
Council completed its annual road resealing and resheeting programs, with 8,085 tonnes of locally sourced material used to resheet 2km of rural roads. Road rehabilitation works were also completed on Murtho Road.
  • Supporting tourism
Renmark was named one of just four finalists in the 2026 hello SA Top Tourism Town Awards. While the town did not take out the overall award, the finalist position provided valuable exposure and recognition for Renmark as a regional tourism destination.
  • Planning for our environment
Council completed a comprehensive Stormwater Management Plan for Renmark and Calperum, using modelling and risk assessment to identify priorities for future investment, reduce flood risk and strengthen community resilience.
  • Supporting animal welfare
Council secured funding from the Dog and Cat Management Board to construct an Impounded Dog Enrichment Enclosure at the Council animal pound. The facility will provide dogs in care with a secure outdoor area for exercise, enrichment and socialisation.
  • Valuable Chaffey Community Centre services continue
Council also finalised the sale of the Chaffey Community Centre to Community Bridging Services, allowing valued community programs and services to continue from the facility while Council realises the benefits of divesting the asset.

The Quarter 4 report provides a clear picture of the work delivered across Council’s services, major projects and strategic initiatives during 2025/26, and will help guide priorities for the year ahead.

The full report can be viewed here in the full agenda.

Council’s next Ordinary Meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 September 2026.
