Renmark Paringa Council Meeting Update - July
Renmark Paringa Council held its July Ordinary Council Meeting last week, with several key decisions made. These include:
New Community Engagement Policy adopted
Elected Members adopted a new Statutory Community Engagement Policy to align with updated requirements under the Local Government Act.
The new policy will guide how Council engages with the community on future projects and decisions.
A three-month transition period will apply, with the existing Public Consultation Policy remaining in place until 28 October 2026.
Callop Court approved as new street name
Elected Members approved the name Callop Court for a new road within the land division at 112 Tapalin Street.
The name recognises the Callop (Golden Perch), a native Murray River fish closely associated with the Riverland.
The name is considered appropriate as it reflects a distinctive feature of the Riverland landscape and its connection to the Murray River system.
The name is consistent with Council’s naming policy, which encourages the use of names that acknowledge local history, geography and native fauna.
It also aligns with the thematic naming approach that has been adopted in a number of historical land divisions and developments, where related names are selected to create a consistent identity and sense of place within a locality.
The road name will take effect from 1 August 2026 following statutory notification processes.
Council also flagged plans to develop a pre-qualified road name register to support future developments across the district.
Residents will have the opportunity to suggest names through a future community engagement process, helping shape the names of future roads and public places in Renmark Paringa.
Stay tuned for details on how to get involved.
Additional fees and charges endorsed
Council adopted two new fees for inclusion in its Fees and Charges Schedule:
- Temporary houseboat mooring permits: $10 per day
- Dog and cat microchipping service: $65 per microchip
The microchipping service will support responsible pet ownership and improve the identification and return of lost animals.
Roads and Works Conference representative appointed
Councillor David Sims was endorsed to attend the 2026 Local Government Association Roads and Works Conference in Tanunda from 2-4 September 2026.
Cr Sims is currently the chair of Council’s Asset Committee.
The conference focuses on how local governments can create resilient, sustainable and safe infrastructure while responding to emerging challenges including climate change, asset management, road network sustainability, emergency response and workforce wellbeing.
Playground planning to continue
Council considered a report on the future of the Jarrett Memorial Gardens Playground and a proposed hierarchy for playground assets across the district.
Following discussion, Council resolved to leave the matter on the table pending further consultation with Elected Members before a final decision is made.
