Renmark Paringa Council Meeting Update - January
Renmark Paringa Council held its monthly general meeting this week, with a number of decisions made.
Dogs By-law – Designated On-Leash and Prohibited Areas
Council resolved to confirm the areas where dog control rules apply under By-law No. 5 – Dogs 2025, following its adoption in December 2025.
Dogs must be on-leash in several key public spaces, including all Riverfront Reserves between New Landing Way and Patey Drive, as well as Bert Dix Park, Plush’s Bend Recreation Area, Darney Taylor Park, Madigan Reserve, SS Ellen Park, and TM Price Park.
Council also confirmed dog-prohibited areas, including the Renmark Swimming Pool, the playing surfaces of Renmark Ovals 1–3, tennis courts and netball courts, and the Paringa Oval playing surface.
These designations align with the former 2017 Dogs By-law and were reviewed with Council’s Regulatory Services team to support safe and shared use of public spaces.
Animal Management Plan 2026–2031
Council endorsed the draft Animal Management Plan 2026–2031 for release to the community for public consultation, subject to minor amendments. This plan will guide animal management policies and practices across the region for the next five years.
New Lease Agreements Approved
Council approved new lease agreements with several community organisations, supporting the continued use and management of Council facilities. The approved leases are for the Renmark Paringa Community Museum, Riverland Dinghy Club, Renmark Lions Club, and the Renmark Bowling Club.
Tree Removal Request – Murtho Street
Council considered a request for the removal of one mugga ironbark (Eucalyptus sideroxylon) at 74 Murtho Street, Renmark, which included a proposal for a replacement tree to be planted at the developer’s expense at a more suitable nearby location.
Following discussion, Council resolved to lay the item on the table and receive further information from staff in a future report before making a final decision.
RSL Renmark Sub-Branch
Elected Members received an information-only report regarding a request from the Renmark RSL Sub-Branch for the replacement of the existing flagpole at the Cross of Sacrifice Memorial Garden. The RSL, in partnership with the Renmark Lions Club and a local donor, will fully fund the supply of a new 9-metre, powder-coated, low-maintenance flagpole with an internal lanyard and solar light.
Council staff confirmed support for this community-led project and will coordinate procurement, installation, and future maintenance. The project aligns with the Renmark Paringa Community Plan by strengthening community partnerships, enhancing civic pride, and improving shared public spaces. Installation is expected to be completed in time for ANZAC Day 2026, subject to supply availability.
