Renmark Paringa Council Annual Business Plan and Budget 2026/27 Visitor Servicing key initiative
Renmark Paringa Council is aware of community discussion regarding the future of visitor services and the potential relocation of the Visitor Information Centre (VIC).
It is important to clarify that Council has not made any decision to relocate the Visitor Information Centre, nor has it committed to a specific future operating model.
The key initiative included in Council's Draft 2026/27 Annual Business Plan is to explore opportunities to enhance the long-term sustainability and accessibility of visitor services within the district, including investigating whether visitor services could be delivered from the Civic Centre precinct.
The consultation process that closed on Friday sought community feedback on whether Council should undertake that review. It was not seeking endorsement of a predetermined outcome.
This initiative forms part of Council's broader approach to service reviews and continuous improvement. Through community feedback received during pre-budget consultations Council has been encouraged to identify opportunities to improve efficiency of service delivery, reduce expenditure where appropriate and ensure resources are directed towards the services and infrastructure most valued by the community.
A recent external capacity and services review identified visitor services as a discretionary Council service that warranted a review of how services are delivered. In addition, the current Visitor Information Centre building is ageing and will require future investment. These are among a number of factors considered when identifying services for review and determining priorities for further investigation.
Council recognises the significant role the Visitor Information Centre plays in supporting visitors, local businesses, volunteers and community organisations. The contribution of the Friends of the PS Industry, tourism operators, volunteers and the wider community is valued and will be an important part of any future review process.
Should Council determine that a review is undertaken, it would consider a range of factors including:
* Visitor experience and accessibility
* The needs of tourists, residents and volunteers
* Relationships with key tourism stakeholders
* Operational and financial sustainability
* Future investment requirements
* Opportunities to improve service delivery
* Community feedback
While a range of views have been expressed publicly, Council encourages community members to refer to the Draft Annual Business Plan and Council's official communication channels for accurate information regarding the proposal.
The time taken to share those thoughts directly with Council is appreciated and helps shape future steps.
Council will now consider all feedback received through the consultation process before determining whether a review of visitor services should proceed. No decision has been made and no relocation proposal is currently before Council.
