Help shape Renmark Paringa’s future by sharing the past

Published 9th September 2026

Renmark Paringa Council is inviting the community to help capture and celebrate local history by nominating meaningful names that could be considered for future roads, public spaces, buildings and other infrastructure.

The campaign has been launched to build on a register of names that can be drawn on as new names for roads and other locations are required.

Community members are encouraged to help contribute to the collection of names, by sharing their stories and local connections that reflect the people, places, history, culture, landscape and character of Renmark Paringa.

Renmark Paringa Mayor Peter Hunter said the Name Bank provided an opportunity to celebrate the region’s past while helping shape its future.

“Every name has a story, and we want to make sure the stories that are important to our community are captured and not lost over time,” he said.

“As our region grows and new naming opportunities arise, having a strong bank of meaningful local names gives us a valuable resource to draw upon.”

The community is encouraged to think broadly when making a submission.

Suggestions could recognise local people and families, history, First Nations heritage and culture, flora and fauna, waterways, landscapes, businesses, local characters, traditional or unofficial place names and stories passed down through generations.

Most importantly, Council wants to hear the story behind each suggestion and the connection it has to Renmark Paringa.

“We’re asking people to share the names and stories they believe are worth remembering,” Mr Hunter said.

“We really look forward to seeing what names are suggested as well as hearing the history and meaning behind the submission.

To submit a suggestion community members are invited to fill out the online form at:

Community Name Bank

Alternatively a printable form can be downloaded from the project page, while hard copies from the Renmark Paringa Community and Civic Centre or the Renmark Paringa Library will also be available.

The nominated names will be assessed in accordance with Council's Road and Public Place Naming Policy.
