Australia Day Awards and Celebrations 2026
The Renmark Paringa community came together on Monday, January 26 to commemorate Australia Day with a well-attended ceremony and community breakfast held at the Jarrett Memorial Gardens.
Despite warm weather conditions, residents gathered in the shaded gardens to recognise outstanding contributions from individuals and community groups across the district.
Five Australia Day Awards were presented during the ceremony. Harry ter Bogt was named Australia Day Citizen of the Year in recognition of his long-standing service to the local community. Riley Broad and Kayleigh Stevens were announced as joint recipients of the Young Citizen of the Year Award, while Scott Jenke received the Active Citizen of the Year Award. The Renmark North Cricket Club’s Pink Stumps Day was honoured as Community Event of the Year.
Mayor Hunter highlighted the importance of acknowledging positive contributions within the community.
The ceremony also included a citizenship component, with 11 new Australian citizens officially welcomed to the Renmark Paringa community. The citizenship ceremonies were held in the Renmark Library, providing a comfortable setting for this significant occasion.
Guests were also privileged to hear the Australia Day address delivered by Lieutenant General Rick Burr AO DSC MVO (Retired), whose remarks highlighted the opportunities available to regional Australians and the impact of community involvement at both national and international levels.
Mayor Hunter praised the award recipients for their inspiring stories and service, describing the event as a wonderful reflection of the Renmark Paringa community spirit.
