Renmark Riverfront hosts Harmony Week art installation
Renmark Paringa Council is proud to support a special Harmony Week art installation created by students from Renmark Primary School, Renmark High School, and the Renmark Children’s Centre, celebrating the region’s rich cultural diversity.
From March 17 to 21, hundreds of orange hand artworks will be displayed at the newly developed open space at 180 Murray Avenue, Renmark, in recognition of Harmony Week.
The hands, crafted by students from the three schools, will be arranged in the shape of Australia, symbolising the unity and multiculturalism that define the local community.
Renmark Paringa Mayor Peter Hunter commended the initiative, highlighting the importance of Harmony Week in fostering inclusivity and understanding.
“Harmony Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the many cultures that make up our community,” he said.
“The display will not only showcase the creativity of our local students but also serve as a visual reminder of the values of respect, inclusivity, and belonging.”
Mayor Hunter also praised the schools for their commitment to educating students about diversity and multiculturalism.
“It’s fantastic to see our local schools taking the initiative to educate students about cultural diversity and inclusion,” he said.
“By participating in projects like this, young people develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures, which strengthens our community for generations to come.”
Renmark Paringa Council is supporting the installation through signage, site preparation, and promotion, ensuring that the community can engage with and appreciate the display.
In addition to the riverfront installation, local businesses are encouraged to take part in Harmony Week by adding a splash of orange to their storefronts.
Representatives from Renmark Primary School will visit businesses with decorations and information about the display, inviting them to join in the celebration.
Mayor Hunter encouraged the whole community to take part in the event and reflect on the importance of inclusivity and cultural diversity.
“We invite everyone to visit the installation, and show their support for a vibrant, welcoming community,” he said.
The display will be installed from Monday 17 March to Friday 21 March.
