Renmark Paringa Council’s 2025/26 Projects
Renmark Paringa Council’s 2025/26 capital works program reflects a commitment to maintaining the services and facilities residents rely on every day, while also planning ahead to meet the needs of a growing and vibrant community.
Each project aligns with Council’s 2024–2034 Community Plan, ensuring that investment supports long-term goals of wellbeing, connectivity, sustainability and growth.
Lock 5 Bank Stabilisation
Providing Fit-for-Purpose Infrastructure
Houseboats are an iconic part of the Riverland lifestyle, and safe mooring infrastructure is essential for their long-term use. The Lock 5 bank stabilisation project ensures this stretch of riverfront remains secure, safe and usable for permit holders and visitors alike.
This project is being delivered in partnership with the Department of Environment and Water under the Constraints Measures Program, showcasing the strength of collaboration between local and state government.
- Initial design testing has been undertaken to ensure the stabilisation method will be effective.
- Engagement with direct mooring permit holders provided valuable insights into how vessels are secured, shaping elements of the final design.
- The results of the testing will be presented to Council for endorsement before works proceed further.
- Over the next three to six months, more activity is expected along the riverbank as stabilisation works continue.
- A geofabric bag solution has been chosen for its durability and cost-effectiveness.
This is an exciting piece of work that not only strengthens infrastructure but also demonstrates Council’s commitment to listening to users and partnering with government to deliver long-term outcomes.
Alan Coulter Recreation Centre Upgrades
Supporting Wellbeing and Belonging
The Alan Coulter Recreation Centre is one of the region’s busiest sporting hubs, used by thousands of people every year for fitness, swimming and community sport. Council’s investment ensures the centre continues to be safe, functional and welcoming for all ages and abilities.
- Replacement of the indoor pool’s filtration and plant room equipment, which is at the end of its life.
- Structural works in a section of the facility recently closed, shaped by community feedback to ensure a practical, fit-for-purpose solution.
- New fitness equipment to support health and wellbeing.
- Partnership with Renmark Netball Club to deliver upgraded courts and lighting following their successful grant application. An important project to support a club with a strong membership base, and encourage sporting participation in our community.
Renmark Paringa Library Renewal
Nurturing Lifelong Learning and Connection
The Renmark Paringa Public Library is a much-loved space where children, families and lifelong learners connect, explore and discover. Council’s works will preserve this valued facility while ensuring the library remains a vibrant hub for the community.
- A structural assessment identified some works that needed to be done inside the building.
- The works will be scheduled outside of school holiday programs to avoid disrupting popular activities.
Playground Renewal – Jarrett Gardens
Enhancing Play and Community Spaces
Playgrounds are central to family life and community connection. The Jarrett Gardens playground renewal project will ensure children have a safe, fun and engaging place to play, while also complementing the library and surrounding gardens.
- Strong focus on community engagement to ensure the playground design reflects local needs and ideas.
- Construction set for 2026/27.
- Builds on Council’s goal of creating safe, welcoming, and accessible spaces for families.
Boat Ramp Upgrades
Creating a Vibrant Riverfront and Boat-User Experience
The River Murray is a defining feature of the district, and safe, accessible boat ramps are vital for both local recreation and visitor tourism. Council’s upgrades will provide modern facilities that support river users and help ease pressure on existing boat ramps.
- Bert Dix Park Boat Ramp: New ramp with improved parking, rigging areas and a pontoon to provide a recreational hub for both residents and tourists.
- Customs House Boat Ramp: Finalised designs approved, with upgrades fully funded through external grants through the Department of Environment and Water.
James Avenue Footpath Connection
Enhancing Accessibility and Walkability
Safe, accessible footpaths are essential to encourage active lifestyles and make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy the town on foot. The James Avenue footpath connection has become a priority project due to its popularity with parkrun participants, the Happy Wanderers walking group, local residents, and visitors exploring Renmark.
This new link will enhance walkability, improve safety for pedestrians, and strengthen connections between key community spaces. Importantly, the project was identified following community feedback received during Council’s Annual Business Plan consultation process, reflecting Council’s commitment to listening and responding to local needs.
Landing Way Swimming Beach
Balancing Recreation and Environmental Protection
The Landing Way swimming beach has long been a gathering place for families and rowing regattas. Council’s reassessment will identify solutions that both protect the riverbank and enhance the area as a safe, family-friendly swimming and recreation spot.
Cycleway Renewal – Renmark to Paringa
Building a Safe, Connected and Accessible Community
The Renmark–Paringa footpath and cycleway is one of the most heavily used connections in the district, supporting safe active transport for families, walkers tourists and cyclists. Council’s investment will ensure it continues to serve the community well into the future.
- Three-year program, starting with Para Street to Tolano Street in 2025/26.
- Application submitted to the State Bicycle Fund to potentially expand the project’s scope.
Road Rehabilitation
Maintaining Safe and Reliable Transport Links
Roads are the backbone of community life, connecting people to shops, services, schools and tourism destinations. Council’s program of rehabilitation works will improve safety and reliability on some of the busiest routes in the district.
- Major pavement rehabilitation on the roads surrounding the Renmark Plaza Shopping Centre, with comprehensive communication to be undertaken to ensure minimal disruption throughout the project.
- Road upgrades and shoulder widening on Patey Drive, a busy route to the Patey Drive Boat Ramp and caravan park during peak season.
Cemetery Niche Wall and Ashes Interment Garden
Providing Respectful and Meaningful Memorial Spaces
As the community grows, so does the need for respectful and well-designed spaces for remembrance. The new Ashes Interment Garden at Renmark Cemetery will provide families with a dignified and serene place for memorials.
- Revised budget of $38,369 allocated in 2025/26.
- Project includes landscaping, screening near the toilet block, and a new niche wall.
- Development will revitalise an underutilised area of the cemetery while providing families with a meaningful interment option.
The 2025/26 program reflects Council’s commitment to balancing today’s needs with tomorrow’s opportunities. By aligning investments with the 2024–2034 Community Plan, Renmark Paringa Council is ensuring that each project contributes to a more connected, vibrant, sustainable and welcoming community.
