New emergency reloading base strengthens fire response at Renmark Airport

Published 23rd October 2025

A new Water and Fuel Reloading Base has been established at Renmark Airport, marking a major step forward in strengthening the Riverland’s emergency response capabilities.

Developed in partnership between Renmark Paringa Council and the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS), the new facility enhances the region’s preparedness for bushfires and other emergency events, improving the safety and resilience of the community.

The Renmark Airport, already home to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Patient Transfer Facility, now serves as an even more critical hub for emergency operations across the Riverland.

The new base includes:
✅ Two 22,500-litre poly water tanks with an infeed line for ongoing replenishment
✅ A 20-foot shipping container for equipment storage

These upgrades enable faster reloading of firefighting aircraft, including both fixed-wing water bombers and helicopters, reducing response times and improving operational efficiency. Previously, the closest reloading bases were located in Lameroo and Murray Bridge.

Council staff recently joined the CFS for a training session at the airport, where the new facility was successfully tested with multiple water drops.

This initiative reflects Renmark Paringa Council’s commitment to building a safe, prepared, and connected community, as outlined in Council's Community Plan 2024–28. By investing in vital emergency infrastructure and partnerships, Council continues to support the organisations and systems that protect residents, property, and the environment.

Renmark Paringa Council is proud to play an active role in strengthening regional emergency services and ensuring the community is ready to respond when it matters most.
