Correction – Murray Pioneer Article
Published 19th December 2025
Renmark Paringa Council wishes to clarify that statements made in today’s edition of the Murray Pioneer regarding Council’s financial position are incorrect.
The article refers to an "operating surplus of $39.3million". This is incorrect and misleading.
The misrepresentation of information from within Council’s audited financial statements does not accurately reflect the distinction between one-off grant funding and Council’s underlying operating position, which is clearly explained in the 2024/25 Annual Report.
Council is committed to transparency and welcomes informed public discussion. However, accuracy is essential to ensure the community is not misled.
Council's operating surplus as published in its financial statements was $8.664 million. The reported surplus includes one-off funding received for the Renmark Riverfront Wharf and Twentyfirst Street Bridge projects.
After excluding these one-off contributions, the underlying result was a $2.38 million deficit.
Council has requested that the Murray Pioneer publish a correction to clarify the factual errors contained in the article.
Council is committed to its journey toward financial sustainability and notes the effect of incorrect information such as that published today are disappointing and can cause angst and misinformation in the community.
