Bridge Is Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

Published 14th May 2025

We’re thrilled to announce the official opening of the Twentyfirst Street Bridge, celebrated on Friday 16 May in front of a large crowd from across the Renmark Paringa community.

Before the bridge opened to traffic, community members had the special opportunity to walk across the new structure- an experience that highlighted just how meaningful this project has been for locals.

“We thought it was really important to give people the opportunity to walk over the structure before it is open to traffic as it has been such a significant asset for so many within our community,” said PeterHunter, Renmark Paringa Mayor.

“It is also a major milestone in our recovery from the 2022/23 floods, which impacted our entire community.

“While we understand the frustrations from our community in regard to the timeframe of the build, it was extremely important to get the project right, ensure it will withstand future flooding events, and also ensure Council received adequate funding support so that the cost of the build did not solely fall to our ratepayers.

“We thank and acknowledge our community’s support for not only this project but all of our flood recovery projects.”

A Collaborative Effort

The project was delivered by BMD Group in partnership with 12 local subcontractors, with a strong focus on using local materials and labour throughout.

Key contributions included:

✅ 100% of demolition, earthworks, and drainage installation completed by local subcontractors
✅ Over $1.1 million (more than 20% of the total contract value) spent locally
✅ 20,000 tonnes of materials sourced from our region

Special thanks to St Francis of Assisi College, Angove Family Winemakers, and nearby landowners for their patience and cooperation during construction. Gratitude is also extended to the Department of Environment and Water for its vital funding support through the Constraints Measures Program.
