Growth Strategy Consultation Open

Published 17th May 2024

Renmark Paringa Council seeks community input on future growth potential for Renmark Paringa

Renmark Paringa Council is inviting the community to have its say on potential growth areas for the Renmark Paringa district.

An initial round of community consultation on the development of the Renmark Paringa Growth Strategy opens today and will remain open until Wednesday 29 May.

The community will have the opportunity to identify local areas they believe should be considered for alternative land uses (such as residential or industrial) and suggest what infrastructure or upgrades the area needs to support future growth.

Feedback collected through the survey will be used to create a draft of the Renmark Paringa Growth Strategy which will go out for a second round of community consultation later this year.

The Renmark Paringa Growth Strategy will inform the development of the Murray and Mallee Regional Plan by the State Government’s Planning and Land Use Services (PLUS) Directorate, within the Department of Trade and Investment.

PLUS are the authority that oversees South Australia's planning system to create liveable and sustainable communities that enhance the lives of all South Australians.

The regional plans spatially map the South Australian Government’s long-term vision for growth across the state’s planning regions and this is an opportunity for our community to influence that plan.

Regional plans play a significant role in identifying land and long-term infrastructure needs to support sustainable growth within the regions. It will highlight how these important changes can be accommodated over a 15 to 30-year period.

Community members can have their say by completing a quick online survey via https://engagement.renmarkparinga.sa.gov.au/rpc-growth-strategy.

Alternatively hard copies of the survey are available at the Renmark Paringa Civic Centre.

Renmark Paringa Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Tarik Wolf said the consultation period presented an opportunity for the community to have its say on the future of the Renmark and Paringa district.

“Our area is really pushing ahead in terms of growth and development, and this strategy will help shape the direction our council area can head in the next 15 to 30 years and do so in a well-planned fashion,” he said.

“There are a lot of knowledgeable people within our community in terms of alternative land uses and growth potential, and we really want to hear from them.

“We also want to identify and plan for the infrastructure that will support the growth of our community, as we know that this is a key enabler of sustainable growth”

“We look forward to taking on feedback and ideas through this first consultation period, and will keep the community informed on the strategy development process in the coming months.”
