Overview

Government Road represents a strategic freight route in the Renmark Paringa Council area which links to the Calperum Industrial Estate and builds on Council’s objective of removing heavy transport from the town centre.

The upgrades to Government Road aim to cater for future traffic demands and to support the safe transportation of heavy freight vehicles. The works will include realignment of intersections, improved drainage, undertaking a full pavement reconstruction including sealing shoulders increasing the seal width from 6.4 metres to 9 metres and aligning the road to create improved road geometry.

In total the project will upgrade the full length of Government Road from Airport Road to Ral Ral Avenue in 4 stages.

The project has been a strategic priority for our Council for a long period of time. The project has been made possible with the support of the local federal member and the federal government Special Local Roads Program (SLRP).

The total budget for the 4 stages of the project is $5.9M with Council securing $3.825M through the Special Local Roads Program (SLRP).

On Friday 13 September 2019, Renmark Paringa Council awarded the contract to undertake significant road improvements to Government Road to local excavation and earthmoving company Scherer Contractors Pty Ltd.

Stages 1 & 2 were completed in 2019/20 by local company Scherer’s Contractors.
