Disability Access and Inclusion Plan
About the plan
The Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA) requires State Government agencies and local councils to develop Disability Access and Inclusion Plans (DAIP’s). The plans are intended to address barriers and promote positive action. The first State Disability Inclusion Plan, Inclusive SA sets out specific actions for local councils to achieve.
In the preparation of our inaugural plan, surveys were developed and forwarded to people with lived experience of disability, carers, service providers, Elected Members and Council staff. Council’s website, E-newsletter and Facebook were utilised to promote the surveys. The surveys were reviewed and collated, and meetings were held with Directors and Departmental Managers to consider Council’s DAIP.
A report will be provided to Council outlining our successes and achievements in September of each year, in line with our reporting obligations to the Minister for Human Services. It is expected that the action plan will evolve and be amended as the achievement of several of the current actions is likely to result in further actions.
